Teaching French as a foreign language:
features of the courses offered by Alliance Française de Delhi

The Alliance Française in India implies the largest AF network in Asia. Highly recommended for its outstanding performance, the Alliance Française de Delhi alone has trained 40 000 students since its inception in 1956. More than 30 teachers, the most qualified in Asia, initially receive training in teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) before teaching at the institute.

The communicative method of teaching is followed implying:
- French-French format of teaching (English-French format leads one to always get into a translation mode and hinders fluency in speech).
- Audio-visual sessions as a support for classroom teaching
- All aspects of learning a language are taken care of including reading, writing, speaking, comprehension, grammar, although the focus on each of these may vary from course to course.

The institution is open to the public aged 7 to 77 years for courses in general and specialised French, and initiation to advanced levels.
