There are fifteen Alliances Françaises on the Indian Subcontinent : fourteen in India (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pondichéry, Pune et Trivandrum) and one in Nepal. These are placed under the umbrella of the General Delegation of Alliance Française India and Nepal (DGAF). At present the General delegate is Mr. Jean-François Ramon who is also the director of Alliance Française de Delhi.
The DGAF has to coordinate the Alliance française India-Nepal network and is the the main privileged interlocutor between the Alliances India-Nepal network and the French cultural service of the French embassy.
The DGAF works closely with the French embassy on cultural projects, on educational programs, specifics trainings for the teachers and on the French certification (DELF/DALF examinations) for the benefit of the Alliance network.
The coordination role also includes the organization of two main meetings in the year (October or November and March) of our India national network where the SCAC and the French Institute are also invited.
The rest of the year, the general delegate and his assistant maintain a regular and active contact with all the directors of Alliances Françaises for any support.
Hence DGAF is a key actor of the Alliances Françaises India-Nepal strategy network, to enhance visibility of France in the Indian subcontinent and to expand the French language as well as the French culture to a wide public.
