Alliance Française de Delhi has recently moved into its new habitat, amidst the lush green and pleasant environs of Lodi Estate. An All India selection of architects took place in July 2001 to select the team that would construct the new AFD building at 72 Lodi Estate. The Indo-French team of architects (French architect, Stéphane Paumier, and Indian architects, Anupam Bansal and Rajesh Dongre of ABRD Architects Pvt. Ltd.) were selected after a rigorous competition by an esteemed jury.

The new building portrays an image of India and France together - a young building using energy conserving techniques and alternative energy sources. The architects have combined themes common to both the French and Indian milieu. The project unites French technology with Indian craft skills. Multiplicity and flexibility are an inherent feature of the design.

The contractors, Bhayana Builders, were selected in December 2002. The Foundation stone laying ceremony was held on 7th February 2003 in presence of Mr. Jean-Pierre Raffarin, Prime Minister of France and Mrs. Sheila DIKSHIT Chief Minister, Delhi.
