The general delegation of the Alliance française de Paris in India

Created in India on 1st March 1984 with a view to bring about closer coordination amongst the various alliances in the country and to represent in their midst the Alliance française de Paris and its policies, it … the functioning of the various Alliances. The Alliance française network in India is one of the rare ones amongst all the Alliance networks in the world to benefit from the dual function of general delegate and joint cultural counselor since this lends the Alliance française network a possibility to coordinate at the same time with the Alliance française de Paris and the Ministry of External Affairs ; this brings about better cooperation amongst the various divisions of the department of cooperation and cultural action (Service de Coopération et d'Action Culturelle) (SCAC) and the Alliances and results in a more coherent disbursement of resources.

The General Delegate gets his mandate through a decision of the Executive Committee of the Alliance française de Paris which confers upon him the charge "of coordinating the cultural, pedagogical and administrative activities of the different alliances within the country where he is posted and of maintaining regular contact with the Alliance française de Paris and, through the Embassy, with the Ministry of External Affairs". In this capacity, he oversees the financial management of grants and financial aids allocated to the alliances and gives account of the functioning of the DGAF as well as the utilization of its funds to the AF de Paris and the MEA.
