We are very happy to inform our members that our own Dr Chinmoy Guha, well-known French scholar and former Professor of French at Alliance Française, has just been awarded the prestigious Lila Roy Award by Paschim Banga Bangla Academy, Government of West Bengal, for “outstanding contribution to translation, notably from French literature, setting very high standards.” The award will be given to him on 15 march.

Dr Guha’s major works include La Rochefoucauld’s Maxims (Dey’s Publishing), Flaubert’s Ahammaker Abhidhan (Gangchil), Romain Rolland’s Danton (Anustup) and Rolland-Kalidas Nag Correspondence (Papyrus), an anthology of Contemporary French Poetry (Partibhas), André Gide’s Strait is the Gate (Sahitya Akademi). He has also written two other important books related to French culture: Where the Dreams Cross (Papyrus) and Chilekothhar Unmadini (Ananda Publishers).
